Our Work
Direct Response
We respond to sex and labor trafficking as it happens, and in a way that places the needs of victims and survivors first. As operators of the National Human Trafficking Hotline, we are on the front lines supporting victims, survivors, and their families no matter where they are in their journey. As the home of the Resilience Fund, we support survivors by offering direct cash assistance– no strings attached– to use in whatever they see fit. In doing so, the Resilience Fund gives survivors back control over their own lives and healing process. We also maintains the U.S. National Referral Directory and the Global Modern Slavery Directory, ensuring that partners everywhere have access to the information and resources they need.
How We Do It
Global Modern Slavery
The Global Modern Slavery Directory is a publicly-searchable database of over 2,600 organizations and hotlines working on human trafficking and forced labor around the world that connects trafficking victims and survivors with much-needed resources such as emergency services, shelter, psychological support, and legal support in 200 countries.
Our Resilience Fund
Far, far too many survivors of human trafficking are just barely hanging on financially. We learned this from the National Survivor Study, which asked nearly 500 survivors how they are doing now that they are out of their trafficking situation. The answer, unfortunately, is that many are living paycheck to paycheck. They are struggling in so many ways that take time and money to process and are still, in very real ways, living in the trap created by their traffickers. To aid survivors in their journey, our Resilience Fund offers direct cash assistance, no strings attached to human trafficking survivors to use in whatever they see fit, with the goal of restoring survivors’ control over their own lives.

U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline
Since 2007, we operated the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline, providing 24/7 support and a variety of options for survivors of human trafficking to get connected to help and stay safe. Through a network of nearly 4,000 partner service providers, trained hotline advocates take information of suspected situations of human trafficking from community members and help survivors build plans so they can safely leave their situations or get the help they need to rebuild their lives. The Trafficking Hotline can communicate via phone in more than 200 languages, as well as text, webchat, email, and webform in English and Spanish.

Research and Intelligence
There is still a great deal left to be understood about human trafficking in the United States. We work to fill this gap and create more data about human trafficking, how it happens, and how it can be used to hold traffickers accountable. Our data is used to pilot new programs, inform policy decisions, and create long-term strategies to end human trafficking. We share our knowledge with allied organizations, academia, and the anti-trafficking movement because the more we all know, the better we can work together to end human trafficking.
How We Do It
Annual Statistics
Every year, we publishes data based on calls, text messages, webforms, emails, and webchats with the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline. This data, while limited and self-selecting, offers important insights into patterns of sex and labor trafficking in North America.
National Survivor Study
The National Survivor Study is the largest and most significant effort to date to learn directly from survivors of sex and labor trafficking about what they have experienced and what they need to heal. Focused on what happens after trafficking, the NSS is a forward-looking research study that focuses on survivors’ futures, not their past. It provides concrete pathways for action for how service providers, policy makers, and other allies can improve support options for survivors after trafficking. Learn more>>>
Financial Intelligence Unit
Our Financial Intelligence Unit leverages the reach, expertise, and motivation of the global financial sector to identify human trafficking operations through their financial footprints. We work to identify suspicious financial activity, conduct trainings for financial and anti-money laundering professionals, and support criminal cases against traffickers.
Campaigns and Public Engagement
To end human trafficking, our communities, policymakers, and anti-trafficking allies must all have the tools and information needed to advocate for long-term solutions. We provide opportunities for everyone to get involved in the fight against human trafficking. From our human trafficking trainings to our public calls to action, use our resources to learn more about human trafficking and what you can do to help.
How We Do It
Policy and Legislation
We works with policymakers across all 50 states and in the federal government to create policy that is data-driven, survivor-centered, and geared toward long-term solutions. We focus on legislation that restores justice to trafficking survivors, holds traffickers accountable, and dismantles the systems that enable trafficking to happen in the first place.
Take Action
A strong anti-human trafficking movement needs all kinds of people- including you! You can use your voice to show support for victims and survivors and effective policy solutions. Our Take Action opportunities allow you to write directly to your elected officials about issues like restoring justice for survivors, worker protections, and hotline confidentiality.
